THE AREA -> KLEINOS
A mountainous village of Southern Pindos (848m), 35 km SW of Kalambaka. The inhabitants, no more than 500 in the winter, double in the summer, are mainly stock-farmers (7,000 goat and sheep, 110 cattle) and loggers. To the community of Klinos belong also the village of Ambelia and several small settlements.

The springs of Kazani, Goura and Lakos contribute their water to Klinovitikos river, a tributory of pineios and the peaks of Triggia (2204m, with a view of Trikala, Olympus and Meteora), Kouritianos (1912m) and Baba (1950m) tower over the village.

the forest of Amouzelos at an altitude of 1700m, with its fir and pine trees, the domed fountain of Grigori and the arched bridge of Aghios Georgios (18th c.) contribute to the beauty of the landscape.
Religious monuments in the area are notable. The monastery of Kimisi tis Theotokou (Assumption of the Virgin) Chrysinou (1749) at the location Bouziania (at an alt. of 680m.). It was established after the destruction of the monastery by the same name that was located lower at Chania Chryssinou and was burned during the Civil War (1946-49). The old church and the outer walls with their ramparts are still preserved today. Of the monastery of Aghion Apostolon (Holy Apostles) Peter and Paul (18th c) the main church is preserved, 2 km above the village, in the style of Mt. Athos, three winged with five domes. The murals in relatively good condition are by the hand of the painter Michael Anagnosti Dimitriou from Samarina and were painted when bishop of Stagon was Kyrillos (1846-1853). In the church there is also a long autobiography (84 lines) of the bishop of Stagon Paisios (1784-1808), a son of Klinovos. The monastery celebrates on June 29th, with a three day feast and glorious religious festivities.

The church of Aghios Georgios (before 1778), is located just outside the village. The temple icons were painted by Dimitrios Athanasiou from Kalarrytes. The church of Aghia Paraskevi (1787) has a carved-wood temple and 18th century icons.

The carnival is celebrated with a traditional parade of the farmers with their stock. The local cultural society organises a series of events in August (1-10th).

You should taste spit-roast lamb in the taverns and buy honey and telemes cheese from the farmers. Visit the bridge of Aghios Georgios. Triggia peak. The monastery of the Holy Apostles and enjoy the mountain climbing to Baba and Triggia peaks. Trout fishing in Klinovitikos river. Hunting in the controlled area between Kouritiano and Triggia.
