Kastania (Koustiana) A mountainous village of Southern Pindos (alt. 850 m), 34 km W of Kalambaka, with a population of 150 in the winter, exceeding 1,200 in the summer. On the way from Kalambaka there is a settlement called Milotopos named after the extensive apple orchards in the area (milo=apple). There is a stone fountain there, with a kiosk and recreation area. Amarandos (Vendista) 2 km from Kastania, at an altitude of 900m., lies the village of Amarandos (Vendista). At a distance of 38 km from Kalambaka, it is considered one of the best holiday resorts in the area. Klinos (Klinovos, Karoutia ) A mountainous village of Southern Pindos (848m), 35 km SW of Kalambaka. The inhabitants, no more than 500 in the winter, double in the summer, are mainly stock-farmers (7,000 goat and sheep, 110 cattle) and loggers. Aidona (Aivan) A mountainous village of southern Pindos at an altitude of 850 m, 40 km SW of Kalambaka. The locals, 128 in winter, 700 in the summer, are mostly farmers. Paleochori (Paliogortsia) 7 km west of Aidona at an altitude of 1050m. lies Paleochori, among the peaks of Kokkinovrissi (1700m), Gionali (1700m), Soufli (2010m) and Triggia (2204m), in the 6 million sq.m. fir-tree forest along the rivers Pliatsikas, Vlacha, Katonistha and Kogia. More...
Chryssomilia (Apano Perliago ) On the northern slores of Neraida peak, at an altitude of 900 m, opposite Koziakas mountain, 25 km from Kalambaka, lies the village of Chryssomilia. The locals are mostly stock-farmers and seasonal workers and loggers. In the winter 150-170 families live in the village, while in the summer the population rises to 2,000 people. More...
